Hospital Background

 

History

Bupa Cromwell Hospital was opened in 1981 and is committed to the provision of the best support services for all medical specialties under one roof. Over 600 Consultants, many of them working at NHS teaching hospitals, also use Bupa Cromwell Hospital. There are 130 beds, 6 theatres, full intensive care facilities and a busy Out-patient Department. The major specialties portfolio, which started as cancer, heart and liver, has now been complimented by neurosciences and paediatrics. The hospital offers a walk-in GP service, but does not have an accident and emergency service.

 

Location

Bupa Cromwell Hospital is situated in Kensington on the A4 road, which is a direct route from Heathrow Airport. The nearest Underground Stations are Earls Court and Gloucester Road (Piccadilly and District Lines). High Street Kensington (Circle and District Line) Underground Station, is the nearest for Cheniston Lodge (details below). Bus routes are the 74 and Heathrow A1.  The Hospital is situated just inside the London Congestion Charge Zone.

 

Structure

The hospital is wholly owned by Medical Services International and a Board of six Directors, who meet at regular intervals to monitor and discuss future plans for the Hospital.

 

The Executive Committee manage the day-to-day running of the hospital and have responsibility for specific functional areas, e.g. Nursing.  In addition, a Clinical Directorate structure has recently been implemented at the Hospital with the appointment of a medical Clinical Director and Programme Manager for each of the five core services as follows:

Adjacent to the main hospital are 14 Mews Cottages, which house Doctors' offices, as well as the CEO office and other administrational departments including Human Resources.

 

The hospital leases Cheniston Lodge on Marloes Road, which accommodates Communications, Credit Control, Purchase Ledger, Payroll and Management Accounts. The hospital are planning to relocate all Departments currently in Cheniston Lodge to the main hospital and Pennant Mews.

Employee Benefits

Everybody who joins Bupa Cromwell Hospital is expected to undergo a probationary period, which will normally be six months. A three-month appraisal will be followed by another at the end of the six- month period. This provides both the employee and supervisor with an opportunity to assess performance and comment on progress and plan development pathways. Following this six-month appraisal and subject to satisfactory performance, the employee will be able to join the permanent staff and become eligible for the staff benefits listed as follows:
