Angiography

Consultants that use angiography are Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons.

What is angiography?

Angiography forms part of the process of diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as coronary heart disease, liver disease, neurovascular conditions, peripheral vascular disease and similar problems.

How does it work?

A small tube (catheter), is inserted into an artery, usually in the leg or arm and manipulated to the appropriate position whereby contrast (dye), can be injected in order to provide images of the blood vessels.

These pictures are then examined to assist in diagnosis and / or may form the basis for carrying out further treatment.

What can I expect?

Angiography is done as a day-case procedure often with just local anaesthetic.
