Speech and Language Therapy
The Department provides advice and specialist services for
problems of communication (including voice), and swallowing
disorders. The service is available to both adults and
children, either as inpatients or outpatients. The Department
works in conjunction with other specialist services where
appropriate to support the integrated care of patients and
carers.
In addition the Department holds Consultant led specialist clinics
as follows. Please note that a medical referral is required for
these:
- Children's feeding clinic
- Diagnostic exam of swallowing for both
adults and children
Services
- Assessment and treatment of voice problems.

- Assessment and clinical management of
swallowing problems
- Assessment and clinical management of speech
and language problems associated with neurological disorders, e.g.
CVA (stroke), dysphasia, neurological conditions - Parkinson's
Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis
and head injury / neurosurgery
- Craniofacial / head and neck conditions
- Assessment and recommendations for
alternative and augmentative communication
systems.
