Respiratory Medicine
Patients with respiratory problems form an important part of the
outpatient work and acute in-patient care. Common problems such as
asthma, pneumonia, lung cancer and fibrotic lung diseases are dealt
with and treated by respiratory consultants.
There are also many patients in the Intensive Care Unit who
either present with, or go on to develop, respiratory difficulties
and necessitate the attention of an expert respiratory
physician.
In addition a number of general medical conditions such as
allergy, septicaemia, and connective tissue disorders may present
initially in the lung.
There are comprehensive and sophisticated facilities for the
diagnosis and treatment of lung disease in the Bupa Cromwell
Hospital. These include routine lung function, access to fibre
optic bronchoscopy biopsy and lavage, non-invasive ventilation
techniques, and access to state of the art progressive care and
intensive care units. There are dedicated and experienced
respiratory physiotherapists on call.
