Paying for treatment
Bupa Cromwell Hospital welcomes both insured and self-pay
patients as well as company and embassy sponsored patients:
Insured patients
Bupa Cromwell Hospital has arrangements with most
insurers. In most cases, bills for inpatient, day case and
radiotherapy treatment can be settled directly with the insurer.
However, some insurance policies do restrict the hospitals that can
be used for inpatients or daycase treatment.
Outpatient visits are normally unrestricted but may be subject
to an annual benefit limit.
We recommend that all insured patients confirm their
eligibility for treatment with their insurer prior to visiting the
Hospital.
The Cromwell Breast Care Unit,
Specialist Bowel Cancer Unit, MRI
Unit and Critical Care facilities are all
BUPA approved.
If you have any queries or for further information,
please contact Inpatient Accounts via the fast track details top
right of this page.

Self-pay patients
If you are paying for your own treatment, you will
normally be required to settle your hospital bill before you have
any tests or treatment. The Hospital accepts all major credit
cards, sterling travellers’ cheques, cash and personal cheques from
UK banks if supported by a banker’s card. A passport is required if
you wish to pay with travellers’ cheques.
For some patients, our Self-pay packages for
surgery scheme may be appropriate.
Self-pay packages for surgery
Self-pay packages enable people who don't have
health insurance to opt for private treatment at an agreed price.
The scheme covers inpatient and day case surgical treatment only
and is available for both adults and children.
What is and isn't included?
The scheme includes:
- Your nursing and medical care.
- The cost of accommodation in a private
room.
- Operating theatre fees.
- Drugs, dressings and consumables that are
used in your treatment.
The scheme excludes:
- The consultant’s fees; you will need to
agree these with your specialist.
- Personal items such as phone calls and
visitors’ meals.
- Anaesthetist’s fees
- Histology
- Take home medication

What should I do next?
To find out if a self-pay package is available for
your operation and how much it will cost, please contact Inpatient
Accounts via the fast track details top right of this page.
Alternatively, you can complete the fixed price surgery
form (PDF).
You will also need to ask your local GP or
physician to refer you to a relevant consultant at Cromwell
Hospital. See a list of our consultants by speciality.
Please note: All medical fees relating to
specialist consultations and treatment are separate from any
hospital charges and therefore need to be settled directly with the
specialist(s) concerned.
Embassy and company sponsored patients
The Hospital has credit arrangements with some
embassies and companies. If your embassy or company is sponsoring
you, you will need to bring with you a Letter of Guarantee which
will authorise for any tests or treatment to be carried out.
If you have any queries or for further information,
please contact Inpatient Accounts via the fast track details
