Hospital.
Bone Densitometry
Osteoporosis is a condition that often affects women after
menopause but may also be found in men. Osteoporosis involves
a gradual loss of calcium, causing the bones to become thinner,
more fragile and more likely to break.
A bone density scan can be used to assess an individual’s risk
for developing fractures but can also track the effects of
treatment for osteoporosis and other conditions that cause bone
loss.
Bone density scanning, is an enhanced form of x-ray technology
that is used to measure bone loss and is most often performed on
the lower spine and hips. Portable devices, including some
that use ultrasound to measure the wrist, fingers or heel and are
often used for screening purposes.
You will need a Doctors referral to have a Bone Densitometry
test or it can be part of your Health Screen.

Mammography
Mammography remains the best method of early breast cancer
detection and despite the fact that it is women who are more
publicised as susceptible to the disease it is also prevalent in
men. The Hospital is proud to offer state of the art Digital
Mammography which increases patient comfort as the time it takes to
xray is reduced from conventional methods. The new system
emits lower radiation exposure than conventional machines and also
reduces the number of false positives in breast cancer detection by
using CAD (Computer Aided Detection) giving more peace of mind to
the patient.
The Hospital’s Diagnostic Centre is also BUPA Accredited.
You will need a Doctors referral to have a Mammography test or
it can be part of your Health Screen.
