What is Gamma Knife surgery?
Gamma Knife surgery sometimes referred to as stereotactic
radiosurgery, is a non-invasive method for treating disorders of
the brain, head and neck, with the use of a specifically
targeted high dose of radiation.
Gamma
Knife surgery is the most widely used stereotactic
radiosurgery treatment in the world. More than 400,000 patients
have been treated with Gamma Knife surgery and it has an excellent
record of successful and safe treatment.
About the Gamma Knife Centre at Bupa Cromwell Hospital
Our Gamma Knife Centre was the first in London
and opened in 1998. Since that time we have successfully
treated over 1,500 patients.
The Centre was totally reburbished in 2007 with the
installation (again the first in London) of the latest
generation of Gamma Knife technology, the Leksell Gamma Knife
PerfexionTM.
The Centre is under the direction of two of the most
experienced Gamma Knife surgeons in the world with over 45
years of gamma knife surgery between them. They have also
been responsible for training many other neurosurgeons all over the
world to use the Leskell Gamma Knife.
As all of our diagnostic equipment is under one roof, patients
can be scanned, mapped and treated without being transferred from
one location to another.
Our patient charter

possible care for all patients undergoing Stereotactic Radiosurgery

(for example the Royal College of Surgeons, Royal College of
