The Gamma Knife Centre at Bupa Cromwell Hospital, is under the direction of two co-Directors who are Professors of neurosurgery. Together they have over 45 years of experience in using Gamma Knife to treat a wide range of conditions. Both were not only trained at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, where Gamma Knife technology was developed, but have also trained many Consultant Neurosurgeons and Oncologists all over the world to use the Gamma Knife. 

 

Professors Lindquist and Lippitz are a respected source of knowledge and expertise for other Gamma Knife users. This position places them at the forefront of this cutting edge technology enabling them to continually perfect techniques and improve patient outcomes for the benefit of all. Both are regularly asked to speak at international conferences as well as publish peer reviewed publications and papers.

 

They head up a team of world-renowned neurosurgeons, clinical oncologists and neuroradiologists, and are supported by a clinical team of highly trained team of physicists, radiographers and nurses who all work together to provide the best care and treatment plan for each individual patient.

Professor Christer Lindquist

Professor Lindquist is a distinguished neurosurgeon and one of the pioneers of Gamma Knife surgery. He has over 30 years experience in Gamma Knife surgery spending 20 of those at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. He is the former President of the International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Association and also worked very closely with the late Professor Lars Leksell – founding father of the Gamma Knife. 

Bodo Lippitz

Professor Bodo Lippitz

Professor Bodo Lippitz has over 25 years of experience with clinical neurosurgery with a focus on minimally invasive techniques in the treatment of brain tumours. Additionally he is a former Director of the Karolinska Gamma Knife Centre in Stockholm, Director of International Gamma Knife Training Courses and is currently President of the European Gamma Knife Society.

How to be referred for Gamma Knife surgery?

NHS patients wishing to have Gamma Knife surgery must be referred by their NHS Consultant or GP to one of our Consultants below. Self-pay patients can self refer to one of the Neurosurgeons or Oncologists listed below. Insured and Embassy patients can be referred by their GP, Consultant or Embassy as appropriate.
