Mr Ahmed R Ahmed is consultant in Gastrointestinal (GI), Bariatric and Laparoscopic Surgery, and Lead surgeon, Department of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. 

 

Mr. Ahmed has trained in general and upper GI surgery in the UK. He has also trained in the United States at Stanford University Medical Centre and at the University of Rochester Medical Centre in New York where he completed a 1 year fellowship in Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery.  This center is one of the busiest in the world (>700 annual bariatric procedures) as well as being an ASBS rated Centre of Excellence. In addition to general laparoscopic operations, Mr Ahmed has performed over 450 laparoscopic bariatric procedures. 

 

He is actively involved in bariatric surgery research and has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals.  He is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), Society of American Gastroenterological and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), Association of Upper GI Surgeons (AUGIS), British Obesity Surgery Society (BOSS).  He was recently awarded the 2007 International Federation of Surgery for Obesity (IFSO) Scholarship.

Mr Gianluca Bonanomi, MD, FRCS gianluca_bonanomi

Mr Gianluca Bonanomi is Consultant in General and Bariatric Surgery at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Hospital, a teaching institution affiliated with Imperial College School of Medicine.  

 

Mr Bonanomi received his Medical Degree at the University of Pisa in Italy and completed Fellowship Training in Bariatric Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre in the United States. From 2002 until 2007, he was Clinical Instructor and subsequently Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of  Pittsburgh. As a faculty member, he developed novel minimally invasive techniques and directed the establishment of an affiliated obesity surgery programme in Italy.

 

His clinical interests include surgery for severe obesity, minimally invasive surgery and upper gastrointestinal surgery. Mr Bonanomi has extensive experience in all aspects of laparoscopic “keyhole” bariatric surgery, including gastric bypass, gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, bilio-pancreatic diversion and revisional surgery.

 

He is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery (EAES), and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO).
