Mr Ian Holloway

Ian Holloway is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in surgery of the hip and knee. He trained in London and was a senior trainee at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He spent a year in Australia completing two specialist hip and knee fellowships in Sydney and Melbourne. He lives in central London within a mile of Bupa Cromwell Hospital.

Mr Holloway specialises in primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery, arthroscopic surgery and surgery for sports injuries of the knee. His NHS appointment at Northwick Park Hospital allows him to undertake complex revision surgery, often for periprosthetic fractures (fractures around joint replacements) and for cases with significant bone loss.

He has built on his experience on the Bone Tumour Unit at Stanmore and treats patients with metastatic bone disease with an emphasis on early symptom control and aggressive rehabilitation. He is experienced in the use of computer navigation for knee replacement surgery and finds this to be an excellent way to optimise implant position. He uses an accelerated postoperative rehab regime to allow early mobilisation and discharge.

His research has been published in the medical literature on the subject of hip and knee surgery and he has presented at national and international meetings. He is a supervisor on the 2009 Institute of Orthopaedics MSc programme and is on the teaching faculty of a number of orthopaedic training courses.
