Biography
Consultant neurosurgeon and Professor of neurosurgery at Charing Cross and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (2000 - 2009). Emeritus professor of neurosurgery, previously professor and head of department of neurosurgery (1980 -1986; 1989- 1998). Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Durban, South Africa. Past President, the Society of Neurosurgeons of South Africa. Chief of neurosurgical service, Harbor Hospital and Associate Professor, UCLA (1986-1987). Clinical research carried out inter alia into shunt infections, dural substitutes, neurocysticercosis, pyogenic cerebral infections and aspects of cerebral trauma. Areas of particular surgical expertise and interest - lumbar and cervical spinal stenosis; discogenic disease; cerebral and cerebellar tumours, other than skull base and pituitary; cerebral trauma; adult hydrocephalus; syringomyelia and Chiari malformations and cerebral infections.
