Bariatric surgery
Bariatric surgery, also known as weight loss surgery, is an increasingly common treatment for obesity.
Overview
If diet, exercise and medicines haven't worked for you, bariatric surgery might be something to consider.
This type of surgery can help you achieve long-term weight loss and improve your quality of life. It can also reduce the health risks associated with some obesity-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
We have put together a team of specialists to provide multidisciplinary support for obesity including lifestyle, pharmaceutical, endoscopic and surgical options for weight loss.
‘The whole process from start to finish with Mr Ahmed was amazing. He made me feel 100 per cent comfortable and confident in all my decision making. I managed to lose over 50 per cent of my body weight, I have zero scars from the surgery and he has completely changed my life and outlook towards food.'

Related treatments
If you are considering surgery, our consultant bariatric surgeons will discuss your options with you and let you know what treatment is right for you. We offer several types of bariatric surgery – gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric band. All bariatric procedures are carried out using keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery as well as robotic surgery.
Gastric bypass
Gastric bypass surgery involves reducing the size of your stomach and bypassing your lower stomach and part of your intestine. This makes you feel fuller and suppresses your appetite.
Gastric banding
A gastric band is an inflatable silicone band, which is placed around the top of your stomach. It works by slowing down how quickly food moves into your stomach, making you feel full earlier.
Sleeve gastrectomy
A sleeve gastrectomy involves removing most of the stomach and converting the rest into a long thin tube. This restricts the amount of food you can eat, and means you feel fuller sooner.
