What is cardiovascular disease?

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a general term for any disease that affects the heart or blood vessels. Common conditions of this nature include coronary heart disease, heart failure and heart valve disease.

Our consultant cardiologists provide a wide range of minimally invasive treatments for cardiovascular conditions. We also provide cardiac surgery for patients that require greater intervention.

Aortic stenosis

Aortic stenosis is a type of heart valve disease where a narrowing of the aortic valve opening restricts blood flow.

Arrhythmia

An arrhythmia is an abnormal heartbeat, meaning it may beat too quickly, too slowly or in an irregular fashion.

Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis refers to the thickening or hardening of the arteries caused by a build-up of plaque.

Atrial fibrillation

Atrial fibrillation is a common type of arrhythmia, where the heart beats irregularly and sometimes faster than normal.

Bradycardia

Bradycardia is a type of arrythmia where the heart beats slower than normal, causing symptoms like dizziness.

Heart valve disease

Heart valve disease occurs when one or more of the heart valves becomes damaged, affecting blood flow through the heart.

High blood pressure

High blood pressure (hypertension) is when the pressure of blood in your arteries is consistently too high.
