A message from Andrew Fairweather, Strategic Change and Implementation Director

Welcome to June’s consultant newsletter! For those of you that don't know me, I am Cromwell Hospital’s Strategic Change and Implementation Director. While the hospital remains firmly committed to delivering world-class care to our patients today, the focus of my role – and that of my team – is to ensure we’re implementing the strategic changes needed to perform even better in the future.

Effectively managing capacity to support Cromwell Hospital’s growth and new service innovations has been a key focus – and a critical factor for our future success. After opening the new Theatre and Recovery Department last summer, the summer of 2025 is shaping up to be even more exciting.

July will see the opening of our new Angio lab, which will contain a Philips Azurion Bi Plane system with state-of-the-art features. We’ll also be completing the remaining areas of the Theatre department, including the addition of dedicated storage and office space. This will allow us to reopen the lounge and generally enhance the overall layout and appearance of the department. The old Angio lab on the ground floor will be decommissioned, making way for the installation of our new 3T MRI scanner in 2026.

Shortly after opening the new Angio lab, we'll be opening a second Angio lab in September (containing a Philips Azurion 7 single plane system).  This marks a significant step forward for us, as cardiology continues to be one of our fastest-growing specialties and our single Angio lab has been under pressure for many years. Moving to two adjoining Angio labs, adjacent to the new Recovery and Theatre department, will position us among the leading cardiac facilities in the private sector. If you are a cardiologist currently using the Angio lab and would like to discuss scheduling requirements for the second lab, please contact Rachel Williams, Head of Consultant Strategy, at [email protected].

A clear sign that we are set to make use of our growing hospital capacity is the developments we've seen in theatres. The addition of a new theatre has enabled us to complement our existing da Vinci robot with the latest generation da Vinci SP. Having launched in April, we are already being recognised as one of the highest volume centres in Europe using this technology. It's a powerful testament to what we can achieve when the right infrastructure is in place.

If that's not enough excitement for 2025, then don't worry... There’s even more to come as we remain on track to open our new Lexham Gardens facility in October. This state-of-the-art space will house our new Radiology and Therapies departments, while also completing a series of relocations that will free up valuable inpatient and outpatient capacity. Immediately following the move, we’ll begin redevelopment works on the ground floor of the main hospital, repurposing the space vacated by Radiology to further enhance our services.

It’s shaping up to be an action-packed 2025 as we bring our strategic plans to life – all centred around the expansion of Cromwell Hospital. You’ve heard about our new locations, but beyond physical growth, we’re also driving forward with digital transformation and a wide range of service developments.

None of these exciting changes would be possible without your continued commitment, for which both myself and the Executive team are sincerely grateful. If you have any further thoughts or ideas, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Endometriosis celebration dinner at Cromwell Hospital; ?>

Celebrating our Endometriosis Centre

We are delighted to announce that Cromwell Hospital has been recognised as the top-performing private endometriosis centre in the country, having carried out the highest volume of surgeries for severe and complex rectovaginal endometriosis.

Between 2022 and 2024, we saw a remarkable 50% increase in joint cases, highlighting our commitment to multidisciplinary care. This includes 44 joint cases with colorectal, 13 with urology, and 2 with thoracic specialties.

To celebrate this outstanding achievement, a special event was held on 29th May with Mr Amer Raza, Consultant Gynaecologist, and members of our dedicated hospital team, whose hard work and collaboration made this success possible.

Help shape our brand narrative

The Cromwell Hospital brand narrative plays a key role in bringing to life our story for our people, patients, and the wider world. Following recent review, we are looking to refresh and refine this narrative to better reflect our ever-evolving hospital – but we need your support in ensuring it truly captures who we are and what we stand for.
