Luis' update: A record June, and a summer worth sharing

Dear colleagues,

Before I begin, I’d like to share some personal news.

I’m honoured to have been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Cromwell Hospital. This is a hospital that means a great deal to me, and I’m incredibly proud to continue working alongside such talented colleagues and consultants.

Thank you for everything you’ve done to help us build our momentum. I’m excited about what we’ll achieve together as we continue building the future of Cromwell Hospital.

A record-breaking month

June was our strongest revenue month on record. That sentence is easy to write and much harder to earn, and every one of you had a hand in it. What makes it even more meaningful is that it isn’t an outlier. Year on year, our growth has been steady and deliberate, built on the quality of the medicine practised here and the trust patients place in us when they walk through our doors.

I would like to thank you, our consultants, for trusting us with your patients, and for the continued partnership and collaboration that has allowed us to strengthen our pathways and deliver the outcomes our patients deserve. That trust is the starting point for everything that follows.

New consulting and treatment rooms now live

Our first phase of new ground floor consulting and treatment rooms are now open. They provide a better patient journey from arrival to consultation, alongside an environment that reflects the standard of care delivered inside them.

The enhanced consulting space also supports the continued development of specialist pathways, including our gynaecology service, creating a more seamless experience for consultants and their patients from referral through to treatment.

If you haven’t yet seen the new facilities, I’d encourage you to take a look. We’d welcome your feedback as we continue to refine the experience.

Our new 3T MRI and extremity scanner

Our new 3T MRI is now live, launched alongside a media campaign that has generated significant interest and is well worth sharing. Alongside it, our new extremity scanner is also in service, expanding our imaging capability and helping deliver faster, more precise answers for patients.

Diagnostics contact centre now live

Our new diagnostics contact centre has successfully launched for CT and MRI services, achieving a 97% call handling rate and an average waiting time of 20 seconds. Following this success, ultrasound services are planned to migrate to the contact centre in September. Reservations are easier to make, waiting times have reduced significantly, and six new colleagues have already strengthened the team.

It’s another reminder that putting the right people in the right structure can quickly improve outcomes for both consultants and patients.

Pharmacy opening soon

Our new pharmacy will follow shortly. It’s an important step in creating a more seamless patient journey, reducing waits at discharge, and making the whole experience feel connected rather than fragmented. More detail will follow soon.

Raising the standard across the hospital

We’re continuing to invest in the details that shape how our hospital feels. New signage has been installed, a comprehensive signage audit has been commissioned, and significant improvements have been made to enhance the cleanliness and overall presentation of our environment. We also have several exciting developments planned for the front of the hospital. With the MRI van scheduled to leave the site, we will reinstate the roundabout and create a more welcoming, accessible arrival experience for patients and visitors.

Every detail contributes to how patients experience Cromwell Hospital. Clinical excellence will always be our foundation, but the moments that surround it matter too, and we’re committed to getting those right.

Enhancing the experience at Lexham Gardens

Listening to our consultants is central to how we continue to improve. Over the past few months, we’ve made several enhancements at Lexham Gardens in response to consultant feedback, including improved accessibility, upgraded waiting areas and better facilities for patients and consultants.

These improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to creating an environment that supports excellent clinical care and delivers the experience our patients and consultants expect.

Investing in digital innovation

We’re continuing to invest in digital solutions that make it easier for consultants to deliver care and improve the experience for patients.

We’ve recently launched the first phase of our electronic medical record (EMR) through OnBase, supporting the move towards more integrated digital patient records. We’ve also implemented iQemo for the prescribing of systemic anti-cancer treatments, providing a more streamlined and efficient prescribing process for consultants and their teams.

These developments have been shaped by consultant feedback, ensuring we’re investing in solutions that genuinely support clinical practice. Looking ahead, our Digital Hospital Consultant Group will continue to play an important role in influencing future digital developments, and we’d be delighted to welcome consultants who would like to get involved.

Catering coming in-house from August

From August, we’re bringing catering in-house. Our ambition is straightforward: outstanding meals, delivered with care, for our patients and for the teams who look after them.

Food is never just a detail. It’s one of the most tangible ways we demonstrate care throughout the patient journey.

Cath labs: strong utilisation, with room to grow

Our cath labs continue to perform exceptionally well and utilisation remains strong. We do, however, still have availability. If you have patients waiting, or additional procedural demand, we’d be delighted to support you.

Making the best use of this capacity benefits everyone, and most importantly, our patients.

Summer theatre capacity: an opportunity

As colleagues take annual leave over the summer, theatre lists will open up. This is a genuine opportunity to make inroads into your waiting lists. We would far rather see that capacity used well than sit idle.

Booking cath lab and theatre slots

To book either, please contact our reservations team on [email protected] or 0207 460 5701, or speak to Carola directly on [email protected] or 07707 145317. The team is ready to help and will work around your schedule wherever possible.

And finally, thank you

To our consultants: your partnership is the foundation of everything we've achieved this year, and it is not something we take for granted.

To our teams: thank you for the effort, the standards you hold, and the care you show every day, often when nobody is watching.

We have all worked hard. Please take the time off you've earned. Spend it with your families, your loved ones, your friends. Rest properly, come back well, and we'll pick up the momentum together.

With sincere thanks,

Luis Pedro, Chief Executive Officer

Cromwell Hospital

The latest news and updates from our Kensington hospital.

Phase 1 opening: London Centre for Gynaecology Care

As part of our continued investment in our facilities and services, we are pleased to open Phase 1 of our new outpatient facility in July 2026, which will be home to the London Centre for Gynaecology Care (LCGC).

Designed around the patient pathway, the new environment brings consultation, treatment and recovery together in one dedicated space, supporting a seamless experience for patients, consultants, and clinical teams alike. The facility includes three consultation rooms, one dedicated procedure room directly connected to a recovery room, and a dedicated waiting area for LCGC patients. The newly created waiting area offers a modern and welcoming environment, enhancing comfort, privacy, and the overall patient experience while reflecting the high standards of care our patients expect from Cromwell Hospital.

The layout has been carefully designed to enhance privacy, dignity, and patient experience while supporting efficient patient flow and the delivery of high-quality care. By bringing consultation, treatment, and recovery together within one dedicated environment, we aim to provide a more seamless, integrated, and personalised experience for our patients while supporting the efficient delivery of high-quality care.

This development reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional patient-centred care and investing in modern facilities that support the best possible outcomes and experiences for our patients, consultants, and colleagues.

Consultant Summer Party 2026

It was a pleasure to host our Consultant Summer Party last night at the prestigious Royal College of Music, and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who joined us.

The evening provided a wonderful opportunity to come together, reflect on the achievements of the past 12 months, and celebrate the dedication, expertise, and collaborative spirit that continue to make Cromwell Hospital such a special place to work and deliver care.

We’re incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and are excited about what the rest of the year will bring.

Thank you once again for your ongoing partnership, commitment, and contribution. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to achieve great things together in the months ahead.

A personal thank you

As many of you will know, I’ll be leaving Cromwell Hospital at the end of the summer to take up a new role within Bupa UK Insurance.

It’s been a genuine privilege to work alongside so many of you over the past four years. Thank you for your partnership, collaboration, and support in helping us improve the consultant experience and deliver positive change across the hospital. Together we’ve achieved a great deal, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished.

Recruitment for my successor is now underway. In the meantime, the Consultant Engagement team remains on hand to support you, and there will be no change to the support you receive.

I remain in post until the end of the summer and am always happy to catch up and provide practice support. If there’s anything I can support you with, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

With thanks,

Priscilla

Now live: iQemo

iQemo is now live at Cromwell Hospital, replacing Aria as the sole system for systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) prescribing.

Selected in response to consultant and Oncology team feedback, iQemo provides a more intuitive, flexible prescribing experience while supporting safe, high-quality patient care.

The transition has been designed to minimise disruption, with no impact on other hospital digital systems, and will also support a more streamlined, digitised prescribing and dispensing process across Oncology services.

If you have any questions, please contact Emma Storey at [email protected].

Intuitive Hub: Surgery livestream

We are pleased to announce that the Intuitive Hub is now available on our da Vinci SP robotic platform, providing enhanced opportunities for surgical collaboration, education, and telepresence.

The Intuitive Hub enables consultants and clinical teams to connect remotely to live procedures, observe operations in real time, and engage in interactive discussion from virtually anywhere. This technology supports knowledge sharing, multidisciplinary collaboration, and training without the need to be physically present in theatre.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Bradley Russell at [email protected].

INUSpheresis®

Every referral is reviewed by a dedicated multidisciplinary team, ensuring patients receive a comprehensive consultant-led assessment, personalised treatment recommendations, and ongoing clinical oversight.

Therapeutic plasma exchange

Cromwell Hospital also provides therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), an established treatment that removes and replaces plasma to eliminate pathogenic antibodies, immune complexes, and other harmful circulating proteins.

The service supports patients with a range of neurological, haematological, renal, and autoimmune conditions, including:

  • myasthenia gravis
  • Guillain-Barré syndrome

Support your patients' waiting list this summer

As we move into the summer period, we are keen to continue supporting patient access and making the most effective use of available clinic and theatre capacity.

If you currently have a long waiting list and would benefit from additional clinic or theatre sessions, we would be pleased to explore options to support increased activity over the coming months.

Please do get in touch with the relevant teams below to discuss availability:

Outpatient Clinics: [email protected]
Theatres and Angio: [email protected]

We would also greatly appreciate early communication of any planned summer leave or holiday periods. Where sessions are not required, releasing clinic or theatre slots as far in advance as possible enables us to reallocate capacity and support other consultants in meeting patient demand.

We would be delighted to work with you to help meet patient demand and optimise service utilisation during this period.
