Dr Sharmistha Guha

Miss Sharmistha Guha is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at West Middlesex University Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust.

She graduated from India in 2000 and began her career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. She moved to London in 2004.

She trained in the Northwest Thames region of London Deanery. She developed her special interest in early pregnancy and emergency gynaecology and took time out of her training to perform research in this field at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. She has carried out several multicentred early pregnancy research projects, including study in pregnancy of unknown location and has several papers in peer reviewed journals to her credentials. She is a regular speaker in many national and international forums. Miss Guha is proficient in performing early pregnancy and gynaecology ultrasound. She did Postgraduate Diploma in Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy Ultrasound from King’s College London in 2011.

Miss Guha has a wide and extensive clinical and surgical experience in obstetrics and gynaecology. She has done advanced training in the following specialist skills module:
• benign gynaecological open and laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery
• acute gynaecology and early pregnancy care
• advanced labour ward management

West Middlesex University Hospital is a busy district general hospital which is part of the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust. Approximately, 5000 babies are born here every year. Miss Guha has a varied work load with weekly gynaecology clinics, 2 week wait rapid access gynaecology clinics for gynae oncology, ultrasound based one stop clinics and early pregnancy unit and acute gynaecology sessions. She does theatre lists and labour ward sessions every week. Practising in this busy NHS hospital helps Miss Guha to maintain and develop her skills. Miss Guha is heavily involved with both undergraduate and postgraduate education and continues to publish research work and actively participates in clinical governance. She keeps her knowledge and skills updated by self learning as well as attending courses and conferences. She practises evidence based medicine with latest updated techniques and methods.

Miss Sharmistha Guha has the following leadership roles:
• Clinical Director for Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust (West Middlesex site)
• Clinical Lead for the Termination of Pregnancy Service at the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust
• Regional RCOG preceptor for training in acute gynaecology and early pregnancy – overall in-charge of trainees pursuing specialist training in this module in Northwest London.
• RCOG preceptor for Benign Gynaecological Surgery (open & laparoscopic) – recognised as being able to provide training to the trainees pursuing specialist training in this module.
• MRCOG Part 3 Examiner
• Various RCOG Roles

Miss Guha provides a comprehensive range of elective and emergency gynaecological services, including gynaecology ultrasound, early pregnancy care, colposcopy and benign gynaecological surgery. She is a registered provider for most available insurance companies such as BUPA, AXA, Aviva, Cigna, PruHealth, WPA.
