About Mr Shahrier Sarker
Three years after achieving his medical degree in 2006 from the National University of Singapore, Mr Sarker came to the UK to hone his skills in renowned hospitals like The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. He undertook his specialist trauma and orthopaedic training under the auspices of Health Education East of England before studying complex management of elective and trauma hand and wrist surgery on a prestigious Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust fellowship, learning from the best plastic hand and orthopaedic surgeons around.
In 2017 he gained his MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering from Cardiff University and his ongoing commitment to his own education is demonstrated by the fact that he is currently studying for the British Society for Hand Surgery (BSSH) Diploma in Hand Surgery. He is also active in the teaching and mentoring of junior surgeons, holds the post of the educational lead for orthopaedics at Broomfield Hospital for students from Anglia Ruskin University and Queen Mary University of London. He is an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) instructor and an Excellence in Surgical Supervision faculty member at The Royal College of Surgeons of England. He has been widely published in academic and professional publications and presented frequently at medical conferences in the UK and overseas.
Mr Sarker has recently been awarded a highly coveted BSSH funded position for the British Orthopaedic Association Future Leaders Programme for which he is developing a Complex Wrist Trauma pathway for the patients of Mid & South Essex. He is currently based at Mid & South Essex NHS Foundation Trust and practises privately in London & Essex
Charity work plays an important role in Mr Sarker’s life, and he sits on the British Society for Surgery of the Hand’s Overseas Project in Bangladesh’s executive committee, where he partners local surgeons to improve specialist hand surgery techniques.
A family man with two children, he enjoys the performing arts, cooking, football and cycling.
