About Dr Rahul Mukherjee

Dr Rahul Mukherjee is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist. He studied medicine at University College London, graduating in 2011 in the top 20% of his year as well as achieving a First Class Honours in an intercalated BSc in Physiology. He completed the Integrated Academic Training Programme in the leading tertiary centres in London, including Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital.

In 2020, he was awarded a PhD in Imaging Sciences and Biomedical Engineering by King’s College London. His PhD thesis was entitled: "MRI-guided electrophysiology for the assessment and ablation of ventricular tachycardia substrate". He received several awards including the NIHR LCRN ‘Research Registrar of the Year’ award in 2021; Finalist in the SCMR Early Career Award and was nominated for the KCL Outstanding Thesis prize.

He completed sub-specialist training in electrophysiology and devices at King’s College Hospital followed by the prestigious AVATAR (Post-CCT Fellowship) in VT ablation at St George’s Hospital under the supervision of Professor Magdi Saba. He has published >40 peer-reviewed publications and held several grants as Chief Investigator or Co-Investigator.

Dr Mukherjee’s main clinical interests are in the assessment and treatment of patients with palpitations, dizziness, blackouts, chest pain and breathlessness. He undertakes procedures including catheter ablation and permanent pacemaker implantation. He also maintains an interest in cardiac MRI to aid in diagnosis and guide management. Dr Mukherjee is also passionate about digital health and is currently the Deputy Chief Clinical Information Officer (DCCIO) at his NHS Trust.
