A message from Luis Pedro, Chief Operating Officer

Welcome to this month’s newsletter.

This past month has been outstanding for Cromwell Hospital, with record patient volumes and revenue. These milestones are a testament to the expertise, dedication, and collaboration of our consultant community. Thank you for the trust you place in our teams, the collaborative spirit you bring to the hospital, and the exceptional care you deliver to every patient.

Strengthening our support ecosystem

Our first virtual Town Hall for consultant secretaries was a great success, bringing together over 50 attendees. The session featured valuable updates from Reservations, IT, Self-Pay, Radiology, and Front of House, followed by an open Q&A and a prize draw to close. This Town Hall will now become a regular forum to strengthen support for your practices and keep your teams informed, connected, and empowered.

A major milestone for cardiac care

Cardiac services continue to advance at pace. We opened our second cath lab, reaching full utilisation within several days. Alongside this, we celebrated our 100th cardiac surgery of the year, marking another significant milestone in our commitment to delivering outstanding cardiac care and improving access and flexibility for both consultants and patients.

Theatres and robotic surgery: Continued progress

Our theatres remain exceptionally busy, driven by strong consultant collaboration and outstanding support from our clinical teams. The robotic surgery programme continues to grow, with both the da Vinci Xi and Single Port systems enabling innovative procedures that deliver reduced pain, faster recovery, and new treatment options for patients.

This month, we celebrated a notable milestone: Mr Amer Raza and our theatres team completed their 100th gynaecological procedure using the da Vinci Single Port system this year. This achievement underscores our commitment to surgical innovation and world-class patient care.

Lexham: A new chapter begins

Lexham is entering an exciting new phase of growth. Later this month, we’ll welcome our first patient, marking the beginning of a new chapter in our outpatient and diagnostics strategy. Next month, the new Lexham building officially opens, expanding access to diagnostics, enhancing patient pathways, and strengthening our network for consultants and patients alike.

Championing men’s health

I’m proud to be the Executive Sponsor for our new partnership with Prostate Cancer UK. Our focus is to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and drive progress in men’s prostate health. I also want to thank our Men’s Health colleagues for their enthusiastic support of Movember – your commitment to this important cause is truly inspiring.

Improving patient experience: Your impact

Our progress in patient experience is clear. Google reviews have risen again, now standing at 4.1 – placing us among the highest-rated private hospitals in London. This improvement reflects your continued efforts to address concerns around delays and lateness in outpatients. Patient feedback and NPS have also improved once more, demonstrating the real impact of our shared commitment to delivering exceptional care.

Listening to our people and our consultants

In November, we ran our Staff Survey, PULSE, and achieved a record level of participation. Results will be shared soon, and we look forward to using these insights to strengthen our culture and enhance our services.

We are now running our Consultant Survey, and I want to thank everyone who has already taken the time to respond. Your feedback is invaluable – it helps us understand how we can better support your practice, reduce friction, and enable you to deliver exceptional care.

Looking ahead

From cardiac milestones to robotic innovation, the expansion at Lexham, and continued gains in patient experience and engagement, our momentum has never been stronger. Thank you for your leadership, partnership, and unwavering commitment to excellence at Cromwell. I’m excited about what we will achieve together in the months ahead.

Cromwell Hospital performs first single-port robotic colorectal surgery in London

Cromwell Hospital has achieved another major milestone in robotic-assisted surgery, becoming the first centre in London to perform a single-port robotic colorectal procedure using the da Vinci Single Port (SP) system.

The landmark procedure was successfully carried out by Mr Ahmed Karim, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, making him the first colorectal surgeon in London trained in single-port robotic-assisted surgery.

This advancement builds on Cromwell Hospital’s pioneering record in robotic innovation. The hospital was the first in the UK to perform gynaecology and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery using the da Vinci SP platform and has now expanded its programme to include colorectal surgery, placing it at the forefront of minimally invasive surgical care.

Mr Ahmed Karim commented: “Performing the first single-port robotic-assisted colorectal surgery in London marks an exciting step forward for patients and colorectal care. Single-port technology offers a less invasive option with faster recovery and minimal scarring. I am proud to introduce this advanced technique and to support the continued development of robotic surgery at Cromwell Hospital.”

Christmas leave

Christmas is fast approaching, and we hope you’re looking forward to a well-deserved break.

To ensure outpatient clinic and theatre space is used effectively during this period, we’d like to start planning now. We know many consultants request additional ad hoc clinics and theatre sessions around their annual leave to meet patient and clinic requirements.

If you’re booking annual leave over the Christmas holidays and need to cancel clinic, theatre, or angio time, please let our teams know as early as possible so we can plan accordingly.

For clinics, contact [email protected].

For theatres and angio, contact [email protected].

Cromwell Hospital partners with Prostate Cancer UK

Cromwell Hospital is proud to partner with Prostate Cancer UK to help men take charge of their prostate health.

Through our year-long partnership, we aim to break down the stigma and embarrassment that can prevent men from seeking help early – when prostate cancer is easier to treat.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. The risk increases if you're over 50, Black, or if your dad or brother has had the disease.

At Cromwell Hospital, we offer cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment options, including minimally invasive techniques such as high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and cryotherapy.

If a man receives an abnormal PSA blood test result during a routine GP visit, our streamlined diagnostic pathway ensures fast access to further testing and expert care.
