Miss Marie-Klaire Farrugia

Miss Marie-Klaire Farrugia is a Consultant Fetal and Paediatric Urologist in London, and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer with Imperial College. She completed her paediatric surgical training in London and Oxford, obtaining her specialty fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2008. She later sub-specialised in Paediatric Urology, with a postgraduate research doctorate based on her research in fetal bladder outlet obstruction and kidney development.

Miss Farrugia has a vast clinical and research expertise in antenatally-detected renal tract abnormalities and their postnatal management (hydronephrosis; obstructed kidneys; bladder obstruction; cystic, duplex, horse-shoe, pelvic kidneys; vesico-ureteric reflux; poorly or non-functioning kidneys, amongst others). She is one of the most experienced paediatric robotic surgeons in the UK and performs robotic-assisted surgery, including robotic pyeloplasty, ureteric reimplantation and nephrectomy. She also manages common childhood conditions such as foreskin issues/circumcision, undescended testes, hydrocoele, hernia, wetting and bladder issues, and recurrent urine infections.

Miss Farrugia has held various leadership positions in the NHS and professional committees. She is active academically and is recognised internationally, with over 60 publications and book chapters. She was elected onto the board of the European Society of Paediatric Urology, Chelsea Clinical Society Council, and as a member of the prestigious Society for Paediatric Urological Surgeons. She is the section editor of the Fetal and Perinatal section of the Journal of Pediatric Urology; and faculty on the European PROMASTER course on paediatric robotic-assisted surgery.
