The Electrophysiology team at Cromwell Hospital has successfully completed its first procedure using the innovative DeCARTO™ catheter system, marking an important step forward in the hospital’s cardiac services.

The milestone procedure was performed by Dr Zhong Chen, Consultant Cardiologist, for a young patient whose irregular heartbeats had returned after previous treatment. For people living with a complex heart rhythm condition, like Ventricular Ectopy (VE), having access to the latest technology can offer welcome reassurance. It helps the clinical team carry out challenging procedures with greater accuracy and confidence, while potentially reducing the time needed for treatment and supporting a smoother, more comfortable patient experience.

The introduction of the DeCARTO™ system enhances the clinician’s ability to map the heart in greater detail and deliver more precise ablation treatment. As one of only a small number of centres in the UK currently offering this advanced technology, we are continuing our commitment to invest in innovations that benefit patients through safer, more effective cardiac care.

A shared achievement

This milestone reflects the dedication and collaboration of a truly multidisciplinary team. By bringing together the expertise of our clinical teams and industry partners, the new technology was introduced into clinical practice safely and successfully.

This first procedure marks more than the successful introduction of a new system. It demonstrates our continued commitment to giving patients access to advanced cardiac treatments and expert care, closer to home and when they need it most.
