About Mr Ammar Al Midani

Mr Ammar Al Midani is a consultant surgeon with a distinguished subspecialty in renal transplantation and vascular access surgery, encompassing complex graft procedures, fistula repairs, and laparoscopic insertion of peritoneal dialysis catheters. His expertise extends to APKD nephrectomies and intricate renal transplants, particularly in patients with multiple prior transplants and surgeries. He provides comprehensive care for renal transplant recipients, ensuring optimal access creation, seamless surgical outcomes, and meticulous post-transplant follow-up.

In addition to his transplant work, Mr Al Midani serves as a consultant in emergency general surgery at the Royal Free Hospital, where he leads the abdominal wall reconstruction and incisional hernia pathway for renal patients in collaboration with the plastic surgery team. He is also deeply engaged in the management of morbid obesity in the context of renal transplantation, aiming to improve transplant accessibility. He spearheads the UK's first Tier 3 weight management programme for renal patients — KFit — which integrates GLP-1 therapy, psychological support, dietary guidance, and physiotherapy through a multidisciplinary team approach.

Academically, Mr Al Midani holds the position of Honorary Associate Professor at University College London (UCL), a module specialty lead of general surgery year 6 medical students and leads renal transplant surgery education for year 4 medical students. At the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS), he serves as an MRCS examiner, faculty member for the START and CCrISP surgical courses, and course director at the Royal Free Hospital.
