Front entrance of Lexham2 December, London: Cromwell Hospital, Kensington, London, has today opened its extension into the adjoining Lexham Gardens building, increasing hospital capacity to treat more patients and provide them with faster access to care and improved comfort throughout their treatment journey.

The new 33,000 square feet site has been expertly designed to provide an enhanced patient experience throughout. Focus has been placed on creating comfortable and spacious facilities, whilst also providing state of the art equipment and expanding vital departments.

The development includes a new therapies area, an additional theatre for cutting edge robotic surgery, enabling minimally invasive procedures that reduce pain and speed up recovery times, a Chemotherapy Day Unit, designed to provide privacy and comfort for patients during treatment, and a new upgraded Radiology department, especially built to deliver exceptional care. The redevelopment also features new technology, including new X-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and DEXA equipment.

The therapy department has doubled in size and will benefit from a dedicated occupational therapy treatment facility, a dedicated children’s therapy area including a sensory room, and a fully equipped rehabilitation gym, providing the high quality equipment for all patients.

The expansion has also allowed the hospital to refresh other areas, including opening two brand-new Cath Labs, specialised medical facilities where consultants perform diagnostic procedures to treat cardiovascular conditions. Alongside this, there is a new 10-bed Recovery department which has been designed to provide a calm and comforting environment for patients immediately after treatment.

The new development drives Bupa’s sustainability mission, supporting the ambition to reach net zero by 2040. By investing in new technologies with improved efficiency the newly opened extension will seek to reduce carbon emissions going forward, whilst the building itself has already been rated as ‘excellent’ by BREEAM, the leading science-based validation and certification for sustainable built environments.

Philip Luce, CEO of Diagnostics and Secondary Care London said: “We’re delighted to open our new extension at Cromwell Hospital. The new, refreshed space will enable us to offer more patients high-quality care when they need it in an environment that prioritises comfort and wellbeing. We’ve been on a journey over the last few years to introduce the latest innovative treatments, technology and modernise spaces for patients and staff. The new extension showcases our commitment to this and I’m excited to welcome patients through the doors.”

Sarah Melia, General Manager for Bupa Health Services said: “We are very proud to be opening the Lexham Gardens building at Cromwell Hospital. This has been an incredible project transforming a 1970s building into a modern, sustainable medical facility that puts patients, people, and the planet at its heart. We are committed to growing the hospital and ensuring our facilities and technology are state of the art, so our patients are getting the very best care possible.

I want to say a huge thank you to all the teams that bought our vision to life, and we look forward to hearing what our patients think.”
