About Mr Kelvin Chong
In addition to his wide skillset in breast cancer operations, Mr Chong possesses a vast experience in diagnosing and managing breast cancer patients of every scenario. Mr Chong is particularly apt in tailoring treatment, not only based on the type of breast cancer but also based on patient’s personal needs.
His practice is always kept up-to-date and is supported by the latest scientific evidence. His practice is supported by a strong multidisciplinary team of oncologist, radiologist, geneticist and breast care nurses. He also has a support team includes a menopausal specialist, lymphoedema nurse, physiotherapist, clinical psychologist, acupuncturist and exercise trainers, all who are specially selected for their impressive technical skills and caring qualities.
He also runs a breast cancer risk assessment service where he uses the latest evidence-supported statistical software for breast cancer risk assessment using Breast Density and Genetic testing. This is especially useful for women who have not had breast cancer but have a strong family/ethnic history of breast cancer. He can also accurately calculate effects of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) on breast cancer risk. In most cases, he will make a tailor-made recommendation on whether HRT should be recommended and what lifestyle changes can be made to mitigate breast cancer risk.
As an Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, he combines both effective breast cancer surgical treatment with the best plastic surgical techniques to achieve favourable oncological and impressive cosmetic results. In addition to standard breast oncological surgery (mastectomy and lumpectomy), his oncoplastic techniques include breast reconstruction, breast reduction, augmentation, therapeutic mammoplasty and rotational perforator-flaps to enable breast conserving surgery (and reduces the chance of a mastectomy). His operative portfolio also includes fat grafting for reconstructions, repair of lumpectomy defect and breast augmentation.
His research interest includes using clinical use of measuring Breast Density and post-breast cancer treatment rehabilitation. He is currently conducting research on using scar therapy for breast cancer patients at Mount Vernon Hospital and runs collaborative projects with RESTORE group to develop Scarwork therapy for breast cancer patients in the UK. He is also studying new pain-relieving techniques for Post-Breast Surgery Pain Syndrome (PBSPS).
