About our diabetic foot service

We are a specialist service providing support and treatment for diabetic foot problems.

People with diabetes are at a higher risk of developing foot problems. Our multidisciplinary team is skilled at providing expert support for foot problems related to diabetes.

If you have diabetes and are concerned about your feet, you can make an appointment directly with a podiatrist.

Your podiatrist will take a full medical history and do a physical examination. They will then discuss a personalised treatment plan with you and, if necessary, refer you to other specialists for further support and onward care.

Diabetic foot problems

Diabetes can affect the sensation and circulation in your feet. Without proper blood supply, you can have issues with healing wounds and pain in the legs.

Sometimes this can lead to serious complications, such as foot and leg ulcers or infections.

Our highly skilled team are here to give you peace of mind and, if needed, rapid access to treatments and support for advanced diabetic foot issues.

If you have diabetes, you should look out for the following symptoms in your feet. These could indicate potential foot problems:

  • Tingling sensation or pins and needles
  • A burning pain or dull ache
  • Smooth, shiny skin on the feet
  • Numbness or loss of feeling
  • Swollen feet
  • Wounds or sores that don’t heal
  • Hair loss on your legs and feet

People with diabetes need to monitor and properly care for their feet to prevent problems. This may include:

  • Regularly inspecting your feet for signs of problems
  • Cleansing and moisturising your feet daily
  • Wearing socks specially designed for people with diabetes
  • Eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly
  • Having regular check-ups with a podiatrist
  • Giving up smoking
