Dr Emma Salisbury

Dr Emma Salisbury is a consultant nephrologist at Cromwell Hospital, with a particular interest in renal transplantation.

Can you explain a little bit about what you do?

I am a consultant nephrologist or renal/kidney physician. Confusingly, kidney medicine is referred to as 'nephrology' or 'renal medicine'. I diagnose and look after individuals living with all types of kidney disease, as well as those who are dependent on dialysis and those who have had a kidney transplant.

What first attracted you to specialise in renal?

The kidneys (most of us have two) are complex and vulnerable organs that can be affected by multiple pathologies. I have a passion for physiology and an aptitude for problem solving so I was drawn to this challenging field of medicine.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Kidney disease can be a chronic condition.  Sometimes it is inherited. I can care for the same patient over a lifetime and build a strong relationship with them and their families.

Why did you choose to join Cromwell Hospital?

Cromwell Hospital has established itself as an internationally recognised, leading private hospital in central London. I can offer first class care to my patients supported by first class colleagues and facilities. Why would I go anywhere else?!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love photography and the Arts, particularly ballet, but spend most of my time outside work caring for my four young children which, luckily, I also enjoy!

Can you tell us one surprising thing about yourself?

I am an identical twin.
