As a teenager, Aaryan faced a difficult decision after suffering a serious knee injury while playing rugby. He could either ignore the problem and hope it improved or seek specialist treatment to protect his future mobility and sporting ambitions.
Recognising the potential long-term impact of the injury, Aaryan and his family turned to Cromwell Hospital, where he was treated by Mr Saket Tibrewal, Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Following a thorough assessment, Mr Tibrewal performed ACL reconstruction surgery and repaired the lateral collateral ligament complex, restoring stability to Aaryan’s knee and helping to prevent further damage.
Although recovery meant time away from rugby, Aaryan focused on the bigger picture. Through specialist surgical care and rehabilitation, he made an excellent recovery and is now looking forward to returning to the sport he loves.
Reflecting on his experience, Aaryan believes seeking treatment early was one of the most important decisions he has made.
“I think it's very important to understand that if you're injured, you should take a break, because 30 years down the line, you could be in a lot of pain just because of one small injury that you had when you were in your teenage years.”
Aaryan’s experience reflects a challenge faced by many young people. Whether it is a sporting injury, persistent joint pain, or a more complex musculoskeletal condition, prompt access to specialist care can have a lasting impact on mobility, confidence, and quality of life.
At Cromwell Hospital, families can access specialist paediatric orthopaedic care for children and adolescents. The team treats a wide range of conditions, including injuries to scoliosis, hip disorders, and lower limb conditions.
Children requiring surgery are cared for in Skyline, the hospital’s dedicated paediatric ward, while specialist physiotherapists support recovery and help young patients return to school, sport, and everyday activities.
