Before your treatment
Your consultant will come and see you before your treatment. They will talk you through the procedure and answer any questions you might have. The anaesthetist may also come to see you.
Depending on your procedure, you may need to wear a hospital gown and possibly surgical stockings. You may also be asked to remove make-up, nail varnish, contact lenses, dentures, jewellery, and body piercings.
If you’re having surgery, you will be told when you can expect to go to theatre. Once in the anaesthetic room, the theatre staff will take over responsibility for your care from the nursing team.
