The day of your admission

The day of your admission

Please follow any special instructions that your consultant has given you, such as fasting before surgery or stopping your medicines.

Please bring with you:

  • any prescribed or non-prescribed medicines you are taking, in their original containers
  • relevant medical information – medical records, X-rays or scans
  • toiletries – we provide towels, soap, shower gel and shampoo
  • nightwear /dressing gown
  • slippers and loose clothing to wear during the day
  • your mobile phone, books, magazines
  • a laptop or tablet – you're welcome to use our free WiFi
  • your insurance or sponsor details — a pre-authorisation number or letter of guarantee, or a credit or debit card to pay with.

Please leave valuable items – such as jewellery, large sums of cash or extra bank cards – at home.

When you arrive

Please go to the main hospital reception, where one of our team will welcome you.

We'll go through any necessary paperwork with you, including payment details. If you have completed a pre-registration form, please bring it with you, or arrive at least ten minutes early so we can help you complete this.

Meeting your nursing team

Once you have completed the relevant paperwork, you will be shown to your room, where one of our nurses will admit you.

If you haven’t been to the pre-admission clinic, the nurse will carry out a full health assessment. This involves taking your medical history and doing routine measurements and blood tests.

Your nurse will give you an identification bracelet that needs to be worn on your wrist or ankle at all times.

For your safety, you should tell the nurse about any medicines or dietary supplements you may be taking, as well as any allergies you may have.
